Uveitis is a serious inflammation in the eye that can quickly disrupt daily life. It affects the iris and /or ciliary body, leading to eye redness, pain, light sensitivity, and blurred vision that can make even simple tasks challenging.
In noninfectious anterior uveitis, the body’s own immune system drives the inflammation rather than an infection. This form of the disease is the most frequently seen type of uveitis in routine eye care and often affects patients in their most active years of life. Many patients experience recurrent or chronic inflammation, meaning the disease can keep coming back over time.
Today, treatments rely largely on corticosteroid eye drops to control the intraocular inflammation. While effective, these drops are associated with risks such as increased eye pressure and cataract, especially when patients need repeated or ongoing treatment over longer periods of time. For people who live with chronic or recurrent disease, this creates a difficult balance between controlling inflammation and avoiding steroidrelated side effects.
There is a rising unmet need for a steroid-free approach that can keep inflammation under control. Novaliq is committed to advancing innovative, steroidfree therapies in anterior noninfectious uveitis to help protect patients’ vision and quality of life.
